American Geophysical Union

The American Geophysical Union (AGU) allows authors to submit their manuscript formatted in LaTeX to any of their journals. For this, they provide a template which contains the structure and reference style they would like for submissions.

The AGU LaTeX template features a single-column draft layout by default but has the option to change this to a two-column layout which mimics the layout of published articles and allows authors to get an accurate estimation of the size of their article. The draft layout divides the article into separate pages by different elements: the author information, abstract, article content and figures/tables. The template contains ample commenting which advises you how the AGU would like you to use the template, several rules to note are that no custom macros are allowed, no subfigures are accepted, and the bibliography must consist of ‘\bibitem’s rather than the inclusion of a bib file. Instructions are included with the template for obtaining a list of ‘\bibitem’s from your BibTeX bibliography file. It is strongly recommended you read the comments throughout the template to ensure a speedy submission process.

The AGU requests that you submit your article in draft mode with figures and tables positioned at the end of the article. For the final submission (after acceptance), you are requested to comment out any graphics (e.g., \includegraphics) and submit figures in .eps or .tif format. Equations should break before margins. For more guidelines please see the LaTeX Formatting Toolkit page at the AGU website.

The AGU currently publishes the following journals:

Earth Interactions; Geochemistry, Geophysics, Geosystems; Geophysical Research Letters; Global Biogeochemical Cycles; Journal of Advances in Modeling Earth Systems (JAMES); Journal of Geophysical Research; Nonlinear Processes in Geophysics; Paleoceanography; Radio Science; Reviews of Geophysics; Tectonics; Space Weather and Water Resources Research.

The template provided here is a modified version of the blank template found on the same page with the inclusion of example content to illustrate the use of the template and improved commenting throughout the template. The document structure and function remain identical to the AGU template.
